Recent work in Progress

Third Draft:

Second Draft:
First Draft:

Here is my most recent digital painting in progress. Started Saturday morning and have been painting on it off and on. Have spent probably 5 hours total on it. I am following a step by step breakdown in a Bob Ross book called the "Joy of Painting." I think it's the 25th volume.

I am looking for critique on this piece. I am confused on how to get the tree foliage to work right. Also, the transition from the forground to the middleground and the middleground to the background has been very tough so far. Thanks!!

  1. Still need to define some bigger leaves with more of a silouette in the forground and maybe play around with some splatter and texture brushes. The leaves still seem alittle to fuzzy. You also lost the yellow faded areas the light is coming from in your third draft. You should try bringing that back because its gives it a nice look and simplifies the painting. Your starting to get to busy. Finaly the division that starts at the top of the waterfal is still bugging me. Maybe try some grasses or maybe some light spots were the light makes it through the leavs. Something to make the transition a little smoother and more natural. A little more color might be nice as well, some reds or flowers or something, break up the foliage abit.

  2. Thats lookin really man, nice job. My only gripe is you need to spend some more time rendering some of your shapes, tighten things up abit especialy in the forground. I think I need to show you some rendering and texturing techniques.
